New Brunswick Cannabis Retail License Business Model Evolution & Farmgate Opportunity
The New Brunswick cannabis model is primed for an evolution to maximize consumer access to safe and legal cannabis options. It started in 2021 by allowing approved New Brunswick (NB) producers to sell cannabis products and produce them locally at their facilities. There are countless other long-term growth opportunities available as well as the CND expands its store network for seasonal and long-term pop-up stores.
Cannabis New Brunswick Private Retail Dispensary Opportunities:
Cannabis in New Brunswick’s private retail store’s channel is a part of the cannabis NB model evolution to provide consumers better access to safe and legal cannabis products in New Brunswick. These private stores will be operated under their own brands. These legal and licensed cannabis stores will offer a full portfolio of legal, regulated products throughout all categories.
The process of determining who will get one of the limited retail cannabis locations will be selected through a public tender process.
Cannabis Retail Operations in New Brunswick:
Retail operations in New Brunswick are run by Cannabis NB. Cannabis NB is the only legal retailer of recreational cannabis for the province of New Brunswick and is a subsidiary of the New Brunswick Liquor Corporation (operating as ANBL – Alcool NB Liquor) which manages retail cannabis sales for the Cannabis Management Corporation.
There are currently twenty (20) Cannabis NB stores located in 15 communities which offer a range of cannabis products with a one-on-one guided retail experience. The province also offers an online Cannabis NB store. The province of New Brunswick is looking at privatizing cannabis sales as a request for proposals was issued in November 2019. The province received eight bids from interested parties in the private sector. A decision on whether or not to move ahead with privatization is on track for late summer of 2020. Cannabis Farmgate in New Brunswick:
Cannabis in New Brunswick is starting a new private retail network that allows private cannabis retailers to open stores under their individual brands across the province. Cannabis Farmgate is a program that allows licensed New Brunswick cannabis producers to sell their own products at their facilities.
Cannabis Farmgate will increase the visibility of local licensed producers, providing them with opportunities to educate customers about the products manufactured at their facilities. Any product sold at a licensed Farmgate retail store must be produced and packaged onsite while ensuring the products meet the federal regulations of Health Canada.
