On February 2nd, 2022 the Governor of Mississippi signed SB 2095 also known as the Mississippi Medical Cannabis Act. While The Mississippi Department of Health is to oversee the medical cannabis program, The Mississippi Department of Revenue will specifically oversee the licensing of medical Mississippi cannabis dispensaries.

Mississippi Cannabis - Licensing Requirements, Timelines, and Selection

Per SB 20995, the licensing of medical cannabis facilities is set to begin in June 2022. Mississippi Cannabis License types are broken up by facility type as well as production limitations. Each business entity is limited to one Mississippi cultivation license, one Mississippi processing license, and three Mississippi Cannabis dispensary licenses. The current legislation allows for municipalities to develop local licensing processes and ordinances as long as they do not conflict with state law, most of which will likely be zoning. Local municipalities are prohibited from banning cannabis outright.
